I know, I’m a month late. But better late than never, right? I have had a whole month to think about who I want to be, what I want to accomplish, and how I want to go about life in 2017. Over this past month, I have had a period of clarity, which I’ve honestly never had before. I am always so stressed and anxious, but this clarity that I have experienced has been eye opening. I sort of knew at the beginning of this month that this year was going to be different. Better. With that being said, I compiled my 2017 resolutions, and I hope they help someone else as much as they have helped me.
- Do not let things that are out of your control affect your happiness. Let me tell ya, I am the queen of letting every little thing affect my day, whether I control it or not. One of my goals this year is to see things more clearly and think about whether or not I had any say in whatever is bothering me. Then I can do one of two things: if I do control it, I can change it, but if I don’t, I can let it go. Too many things in our lives are out of our control, so it doesn’t make sense to let other people’s problems or decisions affect your well being. You make decisions for you. You choose your own happiness.
- Keep eating healthy and working out. You are notorious for getting into these health kicks for like two weeks and then dropping it and never looking back, drowning in queso and chick-fil-a sauce. Time to switch it around and actually stick to it. That being said, you don’t have to be 100% healthy all of the time. You can still eat anything you want, or binge on Netflix. Just remember moderation is key. Balance it all out with some healthy food options, smoothies, and workouts that you enjoy. A healthy lifestyle is not something that happens overnight, and it shouldn’t be stressful. You should enjoy it, because you only have one life to live. A healthy lifestyle is about bettering yourself, and that is what this year is all about.
- Focus on Jesus. You have always said you were Christian, but you weren’t an active Christian. This year is the year to focus on your relationship with Jesus, build new relationships through Christ, and improve your life by living more by the bible and less by the expectations of the world. God will give you clarity and joy and happiness and peace, and that’s just what you need.
The theme of my 2017 resolutions is to change things I want to change, and let go of the things I can’t control. This theme has resonated with me this past month as I have been challenged to make the decision to either change things or let them go. It’s not easy, but from what I can tell you so far, it’s been a much happier month.
What are your 2017 resolutions? How do you plan to keep yourself accountable?
